Nan and Grandad
My Nan Jane was and still is a tough lady...
I once took the p*** out of her as an allergic reaction to a horsefly bite created a swastika like scab on her forehead.
She punched me full on in the face in front of two of my teenage mates.
Another time she came to stay at our house sporting a black eye from a wood chopping accident (she wasn't a lumberjack, I don't think..)
A visiting friend asked me what had happened to my sweet old Nan, I told him that she was undefeated in her local, OAP amateur ladies boxing league...Nan played along a treat and as far as I'm aware that friend still believes it today

When my Nan was younger, her first husband Oliver (who was blood father of my Mum) left her for the high life travelling the world with the Ferrari racing team he worked for.
She struggled to make ends meet and at one point both my mother and her sister spent time in a children's home because my Nan could not bring enough money home to feed and clothe them both.
My Aunt is sectioned later in the story and this accounts for only a small percentage of the "...visits to several mental institutions" so do not fear...as I said this is the prelude to the story...
My Nan later remarried a man called Ron who was to become like a childhood hero to me, he was a Royal Marine and then a Met Policeman and was training to become a barrister when he unexpectedly died and left a big hole in all of our life's.
I have some great childhood memories of Ron but for now let's move on to Dad #2
